Don’t Just Hang It—Style It! Tips for Showing Off Your Art

Ever hang a piece of artwork… and then feel like something’s just a little off?

As an artist, I love seeing my textile pieces come to life in someone’s home—and over the years, I’ve noticed that how you style your artwork can make just as much of an impact as the art itself.

Here are five of my favourite, tried-and-true styling tips to help your textile art sing in your space:

1. Don’t Hang It Too High

This might surprise you—too high is actually a more common mistake than too low! Your artwork should feel visually connected to any nearby furniture. So if you're unsure, try bringing it down a little—it should feel like part of the room, not floating away from it.

2. Group It Up

A single piece can look beautiful on its own—but a cluster of smaller works? The best!. Grouping art brings energy to a space and lets the artworks shine together. (Also, if you’re a bit of a collector like me, this gives you the perfect excuse not to choose just one.)

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Stand It

Not everything needs to go on the wall! Small framed artworks look beautiful propped on a shelf, console table, or mantel—especially when paired with your favourite objects. I’m always reaching for a stack of books (preferably vintage) to create layers and height.

4. Add a Touch of Greenery

You can never go wrong with a bit of added greenery, right? While I love a beautiful bouquet of flowers, I think I might even love a bouquet of leaves more! If you’re in Australia, definitely make them eucalyptus leaves! Or stand a pot plant nearby - that soft green touch brings a sense of calm and life to your art display.

5. Embrace the Unexpected

The best vignettes always have something a little playful or surprising. A ceramic snail (RIP little guy), a found bird’s nest, a quirky vintage treasure—these are the kinds of objects that spark curiosity and joy. Think of your styling as storytelling.

Have a little corner or shelf you’ve been meaning to style? I hope these tips inspire you to get creative and make it feel like you. And if you’re styling one of my pieces, I’d absolutely love to see it—tag me or send a photo my way!
