Six Books I've Recently Enjoyed

Just for something different, I’m sharing a few books I’ve recently enjoyed.

The Bullet Journal
Ryder Carroll

I’ve used the bullet journal (bujo) system off and on in recent years. It works far better for me than a traditional diary, as it encapsulates everything (prior to bujo, my diary would be stuffed to overflowing with loose slips of paper containing lists, important ideas, quick sketches and more). When I’m not using bujo, it’s because I’m organising my life digitally instead. But I don’t like how that makes me spend extra time on my phone (when I’m trying hard to set a good example for my family) so I’m back to using bujo.

And this time I read Ryder Carroll’s book explaining the system, so I’m making it work even more effectively than ever before. Highly recommended!

Eat The Frog
Brian Tracy

I rather enjoy books about productivity. This is my most recent reads. The main idea is to focus on your most important task (the one that will have the most important long term impact, also called them frog’) first in the day. It’s not rocket science, and it’s a concept I’ve known for a long time, but actually struggle to implement - I tend to rush around completing a whole bunch of simpler tasks first, before settling down to something more important (and usually more challenging). The idea is that those simpler tasks will easily slot in later in the day, but not so easily the other way around.

Brand Brilliance
Fiona Humberstone

I’ve had this book for a few years now, and keep it front and centre of my book collection, as I love to page through it on a regular basis. So many beautiful images, and a whole lot of good and beautiful advice for serving your customers through your branding.

The Elements of Graphic Design
Alex W White

I picked up a couple of books about graphic design, as I find myself doing A LOT of graphic design work, both for my own business, and also in various volunteer capacities, and always feel a bit like at any moment someone is going to find out that I have no idea what I’m doing! So I’ve been doing some reading, and also some thinking about potentially taking a graphic design class of some sort.

New Morning Mercies
Paul David Tripp

I read this book along with my Bible over an early morning coffee (right after my gym workout). Tripp has a gift for presenting ideas clearly and in a way that is easily applied to real life. I love everything I’ve read by him recently.

Puddle Hunters
Kirsty Murray and Karen Blair

…because I ALWAYS have a few brilliant picture books out in the living room, and this is a beautiful that I finally picked up recently. I just love Karen Blair’s illustrations here!
