A creative spark: look back at old work to stimulate those creative juices

In addition to my sketchbooks, I have in my studio an accumulation of samples – screen-prints, pieced bits, embroidered bits. Things I started and then wasn’t happy, or things I made simple to try out a technique, design or colour way. When I’m stuck for creative inspiration I find that it helps to look back through these samples through fresh eyes and to handle them for a bit. Inevitably the creative juices quickly start flowing.

I either get inspired to revisit an old idea because it still appeals even after trying to ‘discard’ it, or I realise what isn’t working in a piece, and how that could be improved upon in future pieces.

And sometimes it simply about sparking the urge to create something ‘no matter what’. Sometimes it’s about just making, rather than stressing too much about the final result. After all, if you don’t get started, there won’t be any results at all…

Hmmm, now what to do with that little screen-printed design??

I’m linking up with #amonthof #mycreativespace for the month of November. Today’s prompt: a creative spark.

I’m sure you won’t have too hard a time thinking of something for it, but here’s my 2 cents worth: mount in a frame, esp if you have a few more!
